Yash Chopra, often hailed as the "God of Romance" on celluloid, has been a towering figure in Indian cinema for over five decades. His films have not only entertained millions but also played a significant role in making Hindi cinema a global phenomenon. Chopra was the first patron of the IFFM, and his legacy continues to influence filmmakers and audiences worldwide. The unveiling of the stamp was a tribute to his monumental contributions to cinema, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Yash Raj Films (YRF), the production house he founded.

Rani Mukerji, who is married to Yash Chopra's son, Aditya Chopra, expressed her deep honor and pride in representing the family at this momentous event. She stated, "I’m truly honored and humbled to be a part of this occasion. This is not only a celebration of Yash Chopra and YRF’s rich and impactful 50-year-old legacy but also a recognition of Indian cinema's power to entertain and unite people globally."

Festival Director Mitu Bhowmik Lange echoed Mukerji's sentiments, highlighting the significance of the event. "This is a landmark year for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne as we celebrate our 15th year. Having Rani Mukerji unveil the stamp is a fitting tribute to Yash Chopra's legacy, which has influenced generations and will continue to do so."

The evening also included a reflection on the importance of the IFFM in fostering cultural exchange and creative collaborations between India and Australia. The festival, the largest celebration of Indian films outside India, will showcase a diverse range of films from August 15 to 25, 2024.

The launch of the Yash Chopra stamp not only honored the late filmmaker's enduring legacy but also symbolized the growing cultural connections between the two nations. It was a moment that celebrated not just the man but the entire legacy of Indian cinema that he helped shape, paving the way for future generations to build upon.

This special event, featuring key figures from the film industry and political arena, set the stage for what promises to be a grand celebration of Indian cinema at the IFFM 2024.
