'Ghoomar' Receives Rapturous Acclaim at IFFM2023 Opening Night

A Glimpse into the Unforgettable Premiere: On the evening of August 12th, the anticipation and excitement reached their zenith as the curtains rose for the opening night of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2023. Amid the cultural diversity and cinematic grandeur that Melbourne is renowned for, the film 'Ghoomar' took center stage at the HOYTS cinema located in The District Docklands. This premiere not only marked a significant milestone for the festival but also set a powerful tone for the cinematic extravaganza that was about to unfold.

In its 14th year, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne remains an epitome of celebration, recognising and celebrating the prowess of Indian cinema on an international platform. The festival's consistent endeavor to present a diverse range of films and filmmakers that encapsulate the very essence of Indian storytelling has garnered immense appreciation over the years.

 At this year's Opening Night, it was 'Ghoomar' that stole the limelight, leaving the audience captivated and inspired. The film's heartwarming narrative and exceptional execution earned it a well-deserved standing ovation, a testament to its power to connect across cultures and boundaries.

Directed by the talented R. Balki and scheduled for its official release on August 18th, 'Ghoomar' tells the poignant story of Anina, a promising cricket star whose dreams take an unexpected turn when a tragic accident robs her of her dominant hand's functionality. Set against the backdrop of the cricket world, the film chronicles Anina's journey of resilience, propelled by a former cricketing star turned mentor, played by Abhishek Bachchan. Together, they embark on a journey to defy odds, rewrite destinies, and inspire audiences worldwide.

The film's premise resonated deeply with the attendees, and the applause that followed its premiere was a testament to its ability to touch hearts and evoke emotions. The resounding success was not only a triumph for the film but also a celebration of the collective efforts that brought this story to life.

 Abhishek Bachchan, who portrays a pivotal role in the film, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to unveil 'Ghoomar' on an international platform. He remarked, "Ghoomer is a labor of love. This has been Balki’s dream for a long time. I don’t think there’s any better way of giving back to a game you love so passionately, by making a film dedicated to it." If only Director R Bakli could be present on the night to witness his labour of love appreciated.
“The love and reception from the audience left me deeply grateful. Can't wait to show you all the magic of Ghoomer on 18th August” Abhishek said.

Saiyami Kher was also thrilled and honored that "Ghoomar" was the opening film at IFFM. This film close to her heart as it fulfills her dream of portraying a sportsperson on screen. She sees it as a story of triumph over adversity, both physically and emotionally demanding. “Premiering "Ghoomar" at IFFM 2023, especially in the land of Shayne Warne, adds extra significance to the experience” Saiyami said.
